Protecting the Shove on AT&SF #999795
Title:  Protecting the Shove on AT&SF #999795
Description:  The Crew of the La Mirada Local protects the shove from former Santa Fe Caboose #999795 that is now used as a "Shoving Platform" which in railroad parlance is a place for the train crew to stand and watch while the train makes reverse movements such as this one on the Kimberly lead in Fullerton California. The "999" was added to the car number by the Santa Fe when computerized car tracking was started in the 1970s to differentiate the waycar as a non-revenue generating freight car. It seems #999795 has been used on the La Mirada locals since at least 2005 and was probably around Los Angeles before that. This caboose was built in August 1981 by International Car Company, and was one of 75 class Ce-11 cabooses on Santa Fe, the last new cabooses acquired by the railroad. More information about Santa Fe cabooses may be found at: atsf.railfan.net/waycars/ce11.html Thanks to Evan Werkema for the history on CE 11s.
