Kelso - A Moment in Time |
Description: |
A westbound stack train rolls through Kelso while descending the Cima grade on its way to Los Angeles. Kelso Depot was once a very busy jumping off point for new recruits joining Pattons desert army during WWII. Patton and his Army practiced in the California Desert during 1942-43 for the invasion of North Africa (aka: Operation Torch). The large water tank on the right side of the image was part of the water system that the Union Pacific operated during Kelsos heyday. There is plenty of evidence still existing of this endeavor in the desert to this day. |
