A Mile Away and Closing
Title:  A Mile Away and Closing
Description:  Amtrak Train 784 rounds the bend at M.P. 164 and approaches the Fullerton train station (at M.P. 165) on Main #3 which is the track to the far left in the fame. In the distance can be seen sets of well cars on both sides of the tracks that are temporarily stored until they are needed and then pulled into Los Angeles to be loaded.

Spell Checked
Title:  Spell Checked
Description:  Train 590 en route to San Diego, California approaches the train station at Fullerton lead by engine number 457 which has been specially wrapped to commemorate a decade of Surfliner service and 25 million riders served. When the wrap job was initially unveiled, it said "25 Millon Riders" rather than "25 Million Riders."

Care for the Combo?
Title:  Care for the Combo?
Description:  Amtrak Trains 583 and 577 were apparently combined at some point on the route between San Diego and Los Angeles. Both engines seemed to be running as the train left Fullerton California on this warm Sunday evening in October, but there are many other reasons why one train would need to be hooked onto the other including faulty brakes, a blown air compressor and/or the generator that provides electricity to the cars could have malfunctioned.

Stop Taking Pictures in the Name of the Law!
Title:  Stop Taking Pictures in the Name of the Law!
Description:  I guess I am in the minority with regard to trackside contacts with LEOs regarding the photography of rolling assets belonging to the railroads and their facilities. While I have been doing this for a while now in a number of places around California, today was the first time that I have ever been approached by a member of the law enforcement community specifically regarding my action(s) of standing on a platform snapping pictures of trains. It seems that Amtraks recent revamping of their system wide photo policy has placed their peace officers in quite the quandary, because while they obviously dont like having their pictures taken, there is really not a whole they can do about it when you are a ticket holding passenger in an area open to the riding public and not interfering with the loading, unloading, or operation of an Amtrak train. In this instance, it was my intent to capture an image of the Red Cap cart coming up the tunnel to the platform, however when the officer chose to face me and commence making gestures with his hand, he unwittingly became the subject of the photo. He was a nice guy about the whole thing though, so I will not be sending off a letter to the Director of Amtrak in Washington D.C. about this experience. [Solstice Study] The Conductor
Title:  [Solstice Study] The Conductor
Description:  About three years ago I shot at this spot with this train and captured a few twilight images that I really liked, only they were not very clear and there was a lot of grain due to shooting at a high ISO. Consequently, I had been thinking about re-shooting those images and I finally got around to doing that on the first day of Summer, 2010.

Morning at Highland Avenue
Title:  Morning at Highland Avenue
Description:  Seems a number of my favorite railroad images captured at the station in Fullerton feature the intermediate signals located 3/10s of a mile West of the train station at Highland Avenue in Fullerton California . On this day, I sought to include some type of self inclusive reference to Highland Avenue in the photo - the street sign in the lower left hand quadrant or the image. Here, Amtrak Train #566 from Los Angeles enroute to San Diego approaches the station at Fullerton on a warm morning in November.
