Into the Mojave Sunset at East Goffs
Title:  Into the Mojave Sunset at East Goffs
Description:  We chased this stack train with Warbonnet No. 750 leading from the Arizona border and finally caught up to it the first time at Klinefelter. The chase continued east through West Ibis, Bannock and finally to East Goffs where we lost the light as the sun went down. You just dont see many Dash-9 warbonnets in the Los Angeles basin anymore, so catching this one was pretty special.

Rollin Deep in the Eastern Mojave at Ibis
Title:  Rollin Deep in the Eastern Mojave at Ibis
Description:  Now my life is fulfilled, because I have seen EBCS Ibis. (For some reason I have always wanted to see Ibis, however it is not near a major highway, and it is about a mile off the paved road in the middle of nowhere.) Ergo, if you have ever wondered where Bum "F" Egypt is located, it is definitively located at Ibis.

West Ash Hill - March 2015
Title:  West Ash Hill - March 2015
Description:  Once upon a time, I told Ron Flanary that I was going to do a remake of his iconic March 1995 image depicting the old wooden station sign at Ash Hill California in the Mojave Desert. In the 20 years since Ron snapped his film image, BNSF has added another track, split the control section into both East and West Ash Hills and changed the layout of signals and sidings. The wye at the top of the crest however remains, and in honor of Ron, I shot this image at West Ash Hill which is where the sign in Rons picture was originally situated. (I found the original wood post lying on the ground, but I assume the old sign is on the wall in someones "man cave.") Hopefully, Ron will stick around awhile and I can give him another look at Ash Hill in 2025.

Kelso - A Moment in Time
Title:  Kelso - A Moment in Time
Description:  A westbound stack train rolls through Kelso while descending the Cima grade on its way to Los Angeles. Kelso Depot was once a very busy jumping off point for new recruits joining Pattons desert army during WWII. Patton and his Army practiced in the California Desert during 1942-43 for the invasion of North Africa (aka: Operation Torch). The large water tank on the right side of the image was part of the water system that the Union Pacific operated during Kelsos heyday. There is plenty of evidence still existing of this endeavor in the desert to this day.
